Federal College of Education, Pankshin News Flash

The management of the college wishes to notify all JAMB candidates both NCE, and Degree that indicated Federal College of Education Pankshin as their 1st, 2nd or 3rd Choice and got the required cut – off point of 180 and above that there will be a POST- JAMB Examinations schedule as follows

Date: Friday 30th July 2010
Venue: School Premises
Time: 8:00am in the morning

Other qualified JAMB candidate both NCE and Degree with the cut-off point of 180 and above who did not select FCE, Pankshin as their 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, but are now interested in coming to the college can also come and write the POST-JAMB Examinations for possible consideration for admission.

Those who filled the direct entry forms for both NCE and Degree programmes of the college are also invited for the POST-JAMB Examinations.

NB: All category of students coming for the POST-JAMB Examinations in the college on Friday 30th July, 2010 are notified that they are expected to pay the sum of N2,000 at the college bursary on or before Friday, 30th July, 2010.

PROFILE OF THE DEAN OF EDUCATION
Damian Zwalnan Rimfat (Mcasson) holds first school leaving and Teacher’s Grade II Certificates, NCE, Bed and Med. He is a trained counselors and has served in all tiers of education Primary, Secondary and Tertiary, as a teacher, counselor and administrator. After serving as a College Counselors, he was appointed Head of Psychology department, and is currently serving as the Dean, School of Education. As the Chairman, committee of Deans he has served as acting Provost at various times. He is currently a principal lecturer. Rimfat has published up to six textbooks, three in the offing and published several journals and chapter contributions; he has attended well over thirty workshops and conferences at national level. Rimfat has served as a guest speaker at several public functions. He is married and blessed with children.

DEPARTMENT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION, (ECCE)
GENESIS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The department of Early Childhood Care and Education was established in Federal College of Education, Pankshin in January, 2009 with Mr. Dewan S. Emmanuel as the acting head of Department. A total of twenty-three (23) students were sourced from among NCE one students from PES-SOS, PES-ENG, PES-CRS and PES-Hausa.
PHILOSOPHY:
The early years (0-5) are considered very crucial for the development of an individual and any support given at this stage helps to promote development. This period requires teachers land care givens who are knowledgeable skilled, child friendly gentle, kind tolerant and equipped for the task. There is the need to train such staff in ECCE principles and methods to enable them handle children effectively. Teachers for this taste need the minimum teaching qualification which is the Nigerian Certificate in education (NCE).
AIM  
At the end of the NCE course in Early Childhood Care and Education, trained teachers should be able to identify and discuss the nutritional, social, emotional, cognitive, physical land health needs of children.
OBJECTIVES  
Teachers and caregivers should be able to among others:
Assist children to develop good eating habits
Assist children to develop; good social habits
Facilitate emotional stability in the child.
Assist children to develop fine and gross motor skills
Assist children to develop good health habits especially sanitation and safety needs
Assist children to develop inquisitions to explore the environment meaningfully.
Identify children with special needs for referrals
Manifest desirable administrative competence din Early Childhood Care and education etc.
THE COURSE:
Early Childhood Care and education is offered as a double major.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:
For a candidate to be qualified for ECCE course at NCE level, he/she must have five credits in any five subjects including English and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings.
MODE OF TEACHING
The recommended mode of teaching in the ECCE programme are as for General Education. However, for ECCE emphasis is an effective use of play, practical, demonstration, story telling others are the use of songs, rhymes, discovery/discovery/inquiry and ;experimentation. Practicum at the child centre Nursery or kindergarten or compulsory for ECCE students during the firs and second year in NCE programmes.
