Federal College of Education, Pankshin News Flash

The management of the college wishes to notify all JAMB candidates both NCE, and Degree that indicated Federal College of Education Pankshin as their 1st, 2nd or 3rd Choice and got the required cut – off point of 180 and above that there will be a POST- JAMB Examinations schedule as follows

Date: Friday 30th July 2010
Venue: School Premises
Time: 8:00am in the morning

Other qualified JAMB candidate both NCE and Degree with the cut-off point of 180 and above who did not select FCE, Pankshin as their 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, but are now interested in coming to the college can also come and write the POST-JAMB Examinations for possible consideration for admission.

Those who filled the direct entry forms for both NCE and Degree programmes of the college are also invited for the POST-JAMB Examinations.

NB: All category of students coming for the POST-JAMB Examinations in the college on Friday 30th July, 2010 are notified that they are expected to pay the sum of N2,000 at the college bursary on or before Friday, 30th July, 2010.

10-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

  1. COLLEGE CLINIC
  2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
    Federal College of Education Pankshin Clinic was established in 1974 at the outset of the College. It was then called Federal Advanced Teachers’ College Clinic and had two nurses. It was established to provide health care services to the College Community. It was sited at the former Library. With the rapid increase in staff and students’ population in the College, it was then shifted in 1979 from the old Library to the present site.
    In 1995, the College employed a Visiting Doctor who visits twice a week and in 2008 the visit was increased to four times a week to meet up National Health Insurance Scheme guideline. Then in 2001 the Laboratory Unit was established for diagnostic purposes and three Laboratory Technicians were employed. Today, the College Clinic has 15 health personnel, made up of 7 Nurses, 5 Community Health Workers and 3 Lab Technicians.
    As the population of the College Community continued to increase, there was the need to expand the Clinic. During the 2001 Convocation, the Provost made a request to well meaning Nigerians for the expansion of the Clinic. Senator (Dr.) Ibrahim Mantu, the then Deputy Senate President who was made a Fellow of the College expanded the College Clinic which was commissioned in 2003. This has upgraded the status of the Clinic.
    In 2005, the College registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to become a Primary Provider. Voluntary Counselling and Testing Unit was also established in 2006 and in 2008, APIN (Aids prevention Intervention in Nigeria) coopted the Clinic into its programme and made it a Feeder Clinic. The Clinic is headed by the Deputy Director of Health.

    ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

    Provision of qualitative health care services to the College Community for more productive staff and students.
  5. VISION
    Ensure access to basic health care services for the College Community.
  6. MISSION
    Provision of qualitative health and health care services for the College Community on a daily basis.
  7. OBJECTIVES
    By the end of 2020, it is hoped that the Clinic would have:-
    i) Increase the College Community’s access to health care.
    ii) Improved services to its patients to ensure a healthy College
    population that would excel in College and national service.
    iii) Reduced the consumption rate of alcohol, cigarette, etc through
    seminar/workshops.
    iv) Achieved in Mounting aggressive campaigns to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and STDs.
  8. OPERATIONS
    i. The Clinic renders free medical services to its students after due registration. So also staff that registered with the Clinic as their Primary provider.
    ii. The College Clinic runs two shifts, that is:
    a) Morning shift – 8.00 am – 2.30 pm.
    b) Evening shift – 2.00 am – 8.00 pm.
    iii. The Deputy Director of Health covers calls from 8 pm to 7 am daily except weekends.
    iv. The Laboratory is for diagnostic purposes.
    v. The Visiting Doctor visits four times a week from Tuesday to Friday from 2-5pm respectively.
    vi. The Clinic has a Peugeot Ambulance.
    vii. Rendering of free Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT).
  9. HEALTH CARE SERVICES RENDERING
    Treatment of common ailments and injuries
    Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT)
    Immunization
    Routine Laboratory Investigation
    Health Education to prevent and control health problems
    Accident and emergency services
    Family Planning services
    Treatment of mild HIV/AIDS and STDs (Opportunistic Infection)
    Routine Ante Natal Care
    Child Welfare Services and treatment of mind ailments
    First Aid treatment before referral
    Treatment of minor eye ailments.
  10. COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE
    College Clinic has been assisting her surrounding community with vaccination.
  11. COLLEGE ASSISTANCE
    College has been sponsoring staff of the Clinic to go for in-service trainings, workshops, conferences and seminars.
  12. RELEVANT INFORMATION
    i. Medical Examination was introduced in 2003 for all newly employed staff and students to the College to:
    a) Reduce incidence of fake medical certificate
    ii. Registration of the Clinic under NHIS as a Primary Provider to reduce the issue of out of stock syndrome.
    iii. VCT Centre was established and the Clinic too was co-opted into APIN programme making it a feeder Clinic to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
  13. ACHIEVEMENTS
    - Registration of the Clinic under NHIS as primary Provider.
    - Establishment of VCT Centres
    - Co-opting of the Clinic under AIDS Prevention Intervention in Nigeria( APIN) as a feeder Clinic.
    - Medical Examination of newly employed staff admitted students.
  14. CONCLUSION
    Finally, all staff of the clinic are committed to their work to see that the College Community has qualitative Health Care Services. Also they have put in place the strategies in preventing the spread of STD and HIV/AIDS.

EVALUATION STRATEGY
The Strategic Plan of the Clinic will be evaluated every end of the year for 10 years by the:-

  • College Clinic
  • Local Government Statistics Unit
  • State Ministry of Statistics Unit

PLANNED STRATEGY FOR MODIFICATION
The Strategic Plan of the Clinic having been subjected to the above outlined evaluation will, where expedient, be reviewed or adjusted to ensure that the Clinic continues to render qualitative health care and cure delivery.
